U8/U10 Alpine

U8/U10 Alpine

6 to 9-year-olds

Program Overview

The U8/U10 Alpine Race Team is tailored as an introductory Alpine Ski Racing program, ideal for the youngest athletes interested in ski racing and ideally graduates from the Mighty Mite Program. This program focuses on recreational racing with a gradual progression towards competitive levels, emphasizing ski racing fundamentals and etiquette. Training involves gate sessions, skill drills, and guided free skiing, fostering gradual development into the competitive arena.

Athletes participate in Far West Races and Tahoe Race Series while incorporating dryland training in the scenic Tahoe area. The ultimate goal is to prepare athletes for progression into the U12 Team.

Additionally, athletes are required to maintain a US Ski and Snowboard membership for the season, registered under the U12 category for those under 12, as there's no specific U8/U10 membership available this season.

Program Schedule

The U8/U10 program operates from late November until the final Far West Race in the spring, running five days a week. Sessions are held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 1 PM to 4 PM, as well as on Saturday, Sunday, and designated holidays from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.

Pre-season dryland training is available on select dates from September to November.

For detailed information regarding dates and pricing, please refer to the registration page.

Required Equipment

Families are responsible for providing specific gear for the program, which includes one pair of multi-event or longer SL-specific race skis (recommended length to the athlete's forehead), snug-fitting race boots, straight poles without pole guards, a hard-ear helmet, goggles, waterproof gloves, shin guards for slalom (SL), and optional speed suits for racing, ideally sourced from ski swaps for families with older athletes.

The Diamond Peak Ski Team offers team jackets available through a seasonal lease or purchase program, while athletes under 51 inches tall can use DPST Kinderlift vests provided for the season. It's advised that athletes and families consult with coaches regarding equipment to ensure proper sizing before purchasing, and all gear must be approved by coaches prior to on-snow training sessions.
