This program is the next step moving forward from Mighty Mites or Shredders in the direction of racing and development of skills. This program has been designed to encourage athletes who desire to learn to race recreationally or want to progress to a more competitive level. Strengthening the skills and techniques of ski racing and freeskiing in varied terrain and conditions as well as gate training will be offered daily. The program is offered with three options: 2-Day Weekends & Holidays, 3-Day Weekends & Thursday, and Full-Time 5-Day Wednesday through Sunday).
U10 and U12 athletes will train together on all designated dates. Opportunities to train specific courses, disciplines, and drills will be offered for FarWest and Tahoe Race Series specific training groups.
The Tahoe League Race Series is a local ski racing series that provides the athlete with an introduction to ski racing and is a platform to build and develop ski racing skills. The Far West Racing team is for the athletes who are looking for a more aggressive and competitive racing program and for those that have the strength and skill to train gates and free ski varied terrain with stamina.
All athletes interested in racing must register and maintain a US Ski and Snowboard membership for the season. (Not included with DPSEF registration). Note: All athletes under the age of 12 must register in the U12 membership category. There is no specific U10 membership for this season. We encourage all first-time racers to join the Tahoe League Race Series. Athletes wishing to move to FarWest as a U10 should speak with coaches prior to race registration.
