Far West J45 2007/08

This exciting group of young athletes will take their racing and expert skiing skills to the highest levels of the sport for their respective age groups.

To reach this highest level, a strong commitment is needed by the whole team (athlete, parents, and coach) to provide a safe and fun environment.

This fun training includes: free-skiing, closed and free environment drills, physical and mental training along with gate training and competition management.

AGES: (Athletes age on December 31, 2007)

  • J4 - ages 11 & 12
  • J5 - ages 10 & under

DATES: As soon as snow flies till Far West Championship

(Skiing prior to opening day at DP will be arranged. Check with DPSEF Hotline (833-LIFT) when it starts snowing!)

TIME: Wednesday (J4’s only), Thursday, Friday 1:30 till 4:30 PM

Saturday, Sunday 9:00 AM till 3:00 PM (Training times for camps - 8am to 1pm)

Holiday Camp: December 26th - 28th, January 2nd - 4th  (Race January 5th-6th)

Presidents Week Camp: TBA

Parent info night TBA @ Parasol Foundation

EQUIPMENT NEEDED:

  • Properly fitted skis/boots/poles/helmet (DPSEF members can participate in the Village Ski Loft night for discounted prices on equipment October 17/18th)
  • Cold weather clothing to assure a fun experience
  • Diamond Peak Season Pass
  • Proper USSA & Far West Memberships

ABLITIES NEEDED TO PARTCIPATE:

  • Strong skiing skills
  • Desire to be all around skier and perform all drills/exercises to improve skills
  • Want to race
  • Willing to ski at least 2 days a week

PLANS FOR THE YEAR:

  • Competition in USSA Far West races and/or Tahoe League races
  • Pre-season and in season physical fitness training
  • Equipment care training - Mental skills training
  • Learn the ability to carve turns on any surface, good movement patterns and pole plants
  • Learn how to inspect a race course and the basic rules of competition
  • Develop independence, understand the daily plan and learn proper mountain etiquette
  • 33% gate training, 33% drills, 33% free skiing

FUTURE FOR THESE ATHLETES:

  • Competitive placing in Far West races
  • Natural progression into J3 Far West racing
  • Enjoyment and respect of all aspects of skiing
  • Passion for the sport!
