The young athletes of the Development Team will take their enthusiasm of the sport to new levels and strengthen their learned skills in a variety of terrain, conditions and competitive events.

Markers of success for these athletes will be a display of strong team dynamics at competitive events, and an enjoyment of great skiing experiences with their teammates.

AGES: 7 and up

DATES: December 15th through March Tahoe League Championships

TIME: Saturdays and Sundays 9:00 am till 3:00 pm (Training times for camps - 9 am to 1 pm)

Holiday Camp: December 26th - 28th, January 2nd - 4th, Race January 5th-6th

Presidents Week Camp: TBA

Parent info night TBA @ Parasol Foundation

EQUIPMENT NEEDED:

• Properly fitted skis/boots/poles/helmet (DPSEF members can participate in the Village Ski Loft night for discounted prices on equipment October 17/18)
• Cold weather clothing to assure a fun experience
• Diamond Peak Season Pass (We recommend a season locker at Diamond Peak for equipment)

ABLITIES NEEDED TO PARTCIPATE:

• Be able to ski entire mountain with relative ease and control
• Pass the “Ski Off” at beginning of season
• Show good balance in a parallel turn
• Willing to ski both days
• Handle their own equipment
• Handle winter environment
• Must be raced oriented

PLANS FOR THE YEAR:

• Athletes grouped by age, ability, skills, and individual goals for the season
• Coach/athlete ratio approximately 9:1
• Mid & end of season evaluations
• 25% gate training, 35% drills, 40% free skiing

ACTIVITIES:

• Local Diamond Peak races
• Tahoe League races
• Big mountain visits
• Skill tests

FUTURE FOR THESE ATHLETES:

• Competitive placing in Tahoe League races
• Natural progression into USSA Far West racing
• Enjoyment and respect of all aspects of skiing
• Passion for the sport!
