Development Freeride 2007/08
November 17th, 2006 by adminThe young athletes of the Development Team will take their enthusiasm of the sport to new levels and strengthen their learned skills in a variety of terrain and conditions.
The Freeride group will work on all-mountain skiing and maneuvers on all the slopes of Diamond Peak.
Markers of success for these athletes will be a display of strong team dynamics and an enjoyment of great skiing experiences with their teammates.
AGES: 7 & Older
DATES: December 15th through March 23rd
TIME: Saturdays & Sundays 9 am till 3 pm (Training times for camps - 9 am to 1 pm)
Holiday Camp: December 26th - 28th, January 2nd - 4th
Presidents Week Camp: TBA
Parent info night TBA @ Parasol Foundation
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
- Properly fitted skis/boots/poles/helmet (DPSEF members can participate in the Village Ski Loft night for discounted prices on equipment October 17/18)
- Cold weather clothing to assure a fun experience in all weather and snow conditions
- Diamond Peak Season Pass
ABILITIES NEEDED TO PARTICIPATE:
- With the unique abilities and adventurous attitude of the athletes, the ability to ski the entire mountain in a variety of snow and weather conditions is required.
- Can hold skis parallel all the way through the turn
- Handles winter conditions
- Willing to ski both days
PLANS FOR THE YEAR:
- Fundamentals of skiing, including: gate drills, extreme snow conditions, steeps, bumps, and progressions in the park.
- Athletes grouped by age, ability, skills, and individual goals for the season
- Coach/athlete ratio approximately 9:1
- Mid & end of season evaluations
- Possible local competitions
- Big mountain visits/trips
- Ski flick production
FUTURE FOR THESE ATHLETES:
- Continue the passion for freeriding
- Various extreme competitions
