J3 Racers Wrap Season with Championships at Squaw, Boreal, and Mammoth

May 6th, 2008 by clbro

DPSEF J3 racers wrapped up a long season with Champs at Squaw, Boreal, and Mammoth.  Kudos to Lila, Mackenzie, and Ginetta for the girls, and Alex and Alex for the boys.  Our sympathy to Luca and Erik who had to watch from the sidelines with their respective broken legs.  Thanks guys for showing up at Squaw to support the team.  Hope all is healed up by next fall.  Congratuations to Lila for a really incredible season as a first year J3, as she skied like a veteran all year and kept the older girls racing hard to stay ahead.  See the Bonanza wrap-up article at the following link:

DPSEF J4/5 Racers Have Strong Finish to Great Season!

April 7th, 2008 by clbro

Our Ski Team really showed some great stuff at the Far West J4/5 Championships.  Congratulations especially to Hannah Johnson, Marie Johnson, and Ty Sprock for their several “podium” finishes (top 3) during the weekend of competition.  See the Bonanza article for more details, and also the Far West homepage (www.fwskiing.org) for more details.  http://www.tahoebonanza.com/article/20080404/OUTDOORS/11787597

DPSEF Tahoe League Racers Score at Champs, and Finish the Season Strong!

April 7th, 2008 by clbro

See the Bonanza article on our team’s top performance at the end-of-season Tahoe League Championships.  Good job to all our young racers!  http://www.tahoebonanza.com/article/20080406/OUTDOORS/832993111

Also see the Bonanza’s article on many local young racers and their strong showings all season in the Tahoe League.  We would have had several more top season  finishers in Tahoe League, but so many of our Devo Race and J4/5 racers got bumped out of the Tahoe League and into the Far West because of their strong results in some of the earlier races (any top 15 Far West finish prevents a racer from competing in Tahoe League for the remainder of the season).  Sometimes doing well has some unintended consequences, but we are proud of all our young racers who “ran with the big dogs” in Far West and placed well there too!  Everyone around Tahoe has noticed, and word is out that Diamond Peak is the team to watch out for!

February 4th, 2008 by clbro

Congratulations to Ty Sprock, Connor McKeen, and Marie Johnson for their selection to compete at the Feb. 23-24 J4 Festival Qualifier at Mammoth Mountain.  Ty, Connor, and Marie were among only 9 boys and 8 girls to be selected from the Far West North region to compete for an invitation to the J4 Festival in Bogus Basin, ID, at the Junior Olympics competition there in March.  Only the top three competitors from the Mammoth shootout will continue on to Bogus Basin.  The winners from the J4 Festival in Bogus Basin will be invited to compete in the prestigious Whistler Cup held at Whister, BC.   Best of luck and fast skiing to all three DP racers!  For a complete list of Festival competitors, check out the Far West website at www.fwskiing.org

Holmenkol Wax/Tune Clinic, Wed. Feb. 6, 6-8PM

January 18th, 2008 by clbro

Our local Holmenkol factory rep, John Clausen, will be holding a race waxing and tuning clinic on Wednesday, February 6, 6-8PM, at the Parasol Building, 948 Incline Way, Incline Village.  This is a great opportunity to learn how to make race skis go fast and turn well.  This is a MUST ATTEND for every racer and parent who has not previously attended a wax and tune clinic!  It DOES make a difference in how well a racer will do on race day, and also during practice and training runs.  Even if you do know how to do it, you can always learn more, and get your questions answered.  Waxing and tuning techniques and equipment are constantly evolving, so it pays to keep up what what is the current “state of the art.”   Pizza and soda will be served.  See you there!
