Meet the Sierra Nevada College Ski and Snowboard Teams

Resurrecting a popular SNC event from years past, this year’s Student Government Association will be hosting a “Meet the Sierra Nevada College Ski and Snowboard Team” reception on the SNC campus in Patterson Hall on Thursday, January 29th at 7 p.m. Not only will the SNC students, staff, and faculty get to know the student-athletes that earned national championships in both disciplines last year (athletes we hope will bring home the gold again in 2009), the entire Incline Village community is being invited to meet them as well! If you have a young family member, friend or neighbor who ski races, this will be a perfect opportunity for them to hear about the life of a college ski racer and get an autographed ski team poster for their room. Brownies, cookies, and hot chocolate will be served.

Sierra Nevada College Alumna, Josee Lacasse, Class of 1993, Canadian National Team Member, Collegiate National Champion for Sierra Nevada College, and now Head Ski Coach at Diamond Peak, will be our featured guest at this event. She will discuss her experience as a student-athlete at Sierra Nevada College and how her education prepared her for her current position as the head coach overseeing all ski racing at Diamond Peak. Meet Josee and all the student-athletes who continue the tradition of excellence in ski racing that has brought fame to SNC and Incline Village throughout the country for the past 17 years.

Community Fun Race to Benefit the Diamond Peak Ski Team

The Diamond Peak Ski Education Foundation is proud to announce the 6th Annual Diamond Cup Challenge community fun race. All proceeds from this popular, annual spring event benefit the DPSEF youth racing programs. Race categories include: Individuals (age/sex groups), Family, Husband/Wife, Father/Son, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, Mother/Daughter, Corporate Teams (of four), and Snowboard Individuals. Kids of any age, regardless of experience, and grandparents are also invited. Awards will be given to the top three competitors in each race/age category.

The entry fee is $20 per racer if received by Thursday, March 19th and $25 up to and on the day of the race.  The entry includes two runs on the “friendly” course, a BBQ luncheon and the Awards Ceremony held after the race. Luncheon tickets for non-racers are also available for $10. We would like to thank our sponsor, the Carson Nugget, for donating the food for the barbeque.

Registration will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Diamond Peak Lodge.  Younger racers (Under 8), will begin at 9:30.  Parents wishing to race with their young racers will race it this time as well.  The main race will begin at 10:30 a.m.  The course is a dual giant slalom format on Lower Show-Off at Diamond Peak.  The entry includes two runs on the “friendly” course, a BBQ luncheon and the Awards Ceremony held after the race. Luncheon tickets for non-racers are also available for $10.
